“Crabbe has a big, wide-open optimistic style that's reminiscent of a young, excited Sarah Vaughan… a gorgeous album from a lovely singer—proving that vocalists can indeed choose lesser-known gems rather than adhering to glue-factory Songbook fare.” – Marc Myers, JazzWax
“You are immediately struck by Crabbe’s lilting, buoyant voice, and her clear enunciation, relaxed rhythmic sense, and keen interpretive skill.” – Scott Albin, JazzTimes.com

Description:
A guest performance by Bennie Wallace, jazz saxophone. Admission is free. Program: TBA -- Bennie Wallace has long had his own unique style, combining together the raspy tone of Ben Webster with the frequent wide interval jumps of Eric Dolphy.
He has an explorative style that sound-wise looks back toward the swing era. Wallace started on clarinet when he was 12 and a few years later switched to tenor. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1968, and in 1971 moved to New York, where he debuted with Monty Alexander. Wallace gigged with Sheila Jordan, played with many avant-garde musicians, was in George Gruntz's Concert Jazz Band in 1979, and led his own trio/quartet on and off throughout the 1970s and '80s. He recorded frequently prior to 1985 for Enja, but his mid- to late-'80s Blue Note recordings are more memorable, for they find him infusing his appealing sound with touches of New Orleans R&B and a healthy dose of humor.
In the '90s, Wallace began writing music for films, including White Men Can't Jump. He also stayed active on the jazz scene, releasing Old Songs in 1993 on JVC, Talk of the Town also in 1993 on Enja, and Someone to Watch Over Me in 1999 on Enja. In 2002 Wallace scored critical success with Moodsville and followed it up with the release of In Berlin, a recording of a 1999 appearance at the Berlin Jazz Festival. Since that time, Wallace has released studio albums including The Nearness of You in 2004 and the Coleman Hawkins-themed Disorder at the Border in 2007.

Claudio Roditi (trumpet)
Donald Vega (piano)
Itaiguara Brandao (bass)
Mauricio Zottarelli (drums)
Roditi came to Boston in 1970 from his native Brazil via Mexico. He studied at the Berklee College of Music and became musically influenced by Clifford Brown and Lee Morgan. Roditi later joined the faculty of the School of Contemporary Music, meanwhile doing club and concert performances. In 1976 he moved to New York, and quickly broke into the local circuit, performing and recording with Joe Henderson, Charlie Rouse, Herbie Mann, Tito Puente, McCoy Tyner, Horace Silver and Paquito D'Rivera. Roditi established himself as a formidable jazz figure. Since 1989, he has traveled frequently as a member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra. For a while, he also toured with The Jazz Masters, a Gillespie tribute group led by Slide Hampton. Roditi has recorded 16 critically acclaimed albums as a leader since 1984, and Brazilliance X 4 was nominated for a Grammy Award as best Latin jazz album in 2010. In 1995, his Symphonic Bossa Nova recording also garnered a Grammy nomination.

Jesse Colin Young, critically acclaimed solo artist and lead singer of the legendary classic rock band, The Youngbloods, took the nation by storm when The Youngblood's single Get Together became a worldwide Top 10 hit and a prominent soundtrack for peace. After seven group releases, Young began the production of more than 15 acclaimed solo albums including Song for Juli, Light Shine, Songbird and a live album with his great touring band titled On the Road. In 2005 he released the most comprehensive collection of his music to date—The Very Best of Jesse Colin Young. For the first-time ever, songs from his solo career as well as hits from The Youngbloods were placed in one 2 CD package.
Jesse was born and raised in Queens, New York in 1941, and his earliest family memories are filled with the joy of music and celebration. His mother was a violinist who had a beautiful singing voice of perfect pitch, and his father was a Harvard educated accountant with a passion for classical music. Along with his older sister, the family spent evenings gathered around the piano singing Harvard fight songs and other lively tunes. In 1959 the talented student won a scholarship to Phillips Andover, the all boys prep school in Massachusetts. The rigorous curriculum and strict discipline the school required ultimately resulted in Jesse being kicked out of the exclusive academy—an event which forever changed the course of his life.
The blues were calling his name and the next few years were spent exploring the music of T-Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters for inspiration and consolation.
