Donald Vega


Grammy®-nominated composer and pianist Donald Vega performs internationally as the pianist for world-renowned bassist Ron Carter. He is currently recording a new suite of original music commissioned by Chamber Music America, slated for release in 2026, featuring his Latin Jazz sextet. He is a professor at The Juilliard School, was named a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow in composition, and was nominated for a Grammy® for his album As I Travel. Vega was classically trained in his native Nicaragua and learned the language of jazz from mentors Billy Higgins, John Clayton, Al McKibbon, and Francisco Aguabella. He is a graduate of USC, Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School where he studied with piano great Kenny Barron.
